SURE  THING (Poem)

SURE THING Copyright Larry Newcomb 2014

A very very sure sign; a very sure thing;
We made it through the hard times; it’s New York in Spring.
The winter was so long; the weather was so cold; Icy roads unsafe; days of falling snow.
We made it thru the Arctic winds; we made it through the storms.
We’re here to tell the story; it’s peaceful and warm.

When plans fall apart; the children must come first.
Sweet love and attention; protects them from the worst.
We stand and break the cycle; the buck stops here.
Build a strong foundation; the first eleven years.

What gets you through your darkness? What gets you through the night?
What brings you true enjoyment? What brings you to the Light?
What makes you feel safe? What makes you feel ok?
What gives you satisfaction? What makes a better day?

Our faith was surely tested; now you know I’ve got your back.
Making up for lost time; now we know we’re on track.
A very very sure sign; a very sure thing.
We made it through the hard times; it’s New York in Spring.
