BIOGRAPHY

 

Dr. Larry Newcomb earned the Ph.D. in Music in 1998 and Masters in Music in 1995 from the University of Florida.  He created and directs the Newcomb Guitar School and Guitar Studies Program at Our Lady of Pompeii School in New York.  Newcomb is Artist Endorser for D’Addario and Planet Waves.  Larry is a student of legendary guitar great Bucky Pizzarelli. He has also studied with Pat Martino, Howard Roberts, and Mark Elf. Newcomb pursued classical guitar excellence under the supervision of Bruce Holtzmann at the Florida State University and studied composition studies with Dr. Budd Udell at the University of Florida. Larry has taken saxophonist Bob Mover’s Jazz Improvisation Course and Gary Burton’s Introduction to Jazz Improvisation. Musical influences include Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Jim Hall, Joe Pass, Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Albert King, B. B. King and   Freddie King.

 

Dr. Newcomb was lead guitarist in the touring bands of hitmakers including Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits), Leslie Gore, Lou Christie, Billy J. Kramer, Tommy Cash, Darlene Austin, Tom Grant, and Jimmy Payne.  Currently, Larry presents classic and original electric and acoustic guitar styles in solo, duo, trio and quartet configurations in the New York Tri-State Area, Florida and in The Netherlands.
