The Band
Mark Fox, tenor & soprano saxophone and donso/kamal ngoni (Malian harp) player, bandleader, composer/songwriter and recording artist, as well as artistic director has participated for over 25 years professionally in the international music and entertainment industry. Blessed at an early age, many legends of music came into his life such as maestros Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, Marion Brown, George Garzone, George Clinton and a host of others. These masters became profound teachers, mentors, friends and colleagues, bringing Fox into the deepest levels of the music world.
During Fox's decade and a half in New York City, he had the honor to perform with such greats as Warren Smith, The Boys Harbor Big Band, George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars, Archie Shepp, The Violent Femmes, Eugene Chadborne, and a numerous of other groups and high level artists. Mark's career in music tapered while living in Paris, France, though continuing to play with less frequency, he was blessed to perform with greats such as Steve McCraven, Hervé Samb, Rassul Siddik and others.
In the past years, Mark Fox has returned to his passion for the music with a fervor like never before, and is currently leading his band, Mark Fox Sonic Nomads. Releasing his debut album as a bandleader in 2016, "Three Octaves Above the Sun", with a powerhouse, sold out performance at Dazzle Jazz in Denver, and winning “Best of 2016” from allaboutjazz.com. Fox is currently shopping his forthcoming album, Mark Fox - "Iridescent Sounds”, produced by legendary, multi-Grammy Award Winning producer & NEA Jazz Master, Todd Barkan, for release by a major record label. Felix Ayodele, born in Evanston, Illinois moved to Houston,Tx in the early 90's and began to displayed an interest in art and music. With handed down records from his parents (both from Nigeria) he was provided with a wealth of music education,that would eventually be injected interestingly into his creation process. Felix was deeply influenced by King Crimson and Camel, to the Afrobeat music of King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti and the like, and the more obscure and creative jazz masters like Sun-Ra, Ornette Coleman and others. This combined with his inherent and natural traditional musician within, has created a recipe for the modern producer/musician that Felix Ayodele is today.
Peter Stoltzman, son of Grammy-winning clarinet legend, Richard Stoltzman and renowned violinist and educator, Lucy Chapman, jazz pianist, naturally grew into a career as both a performer and educator. Stoltzman has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, Allison Miller, Ron Westray, Yosvanny Terry, Tia Fuller, and many more.
He has worked at the highest levels of the industry in virtually every style, from recording
contemporary classical music with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, to headlining festivals with the American Music Award-winning funk-rock band, The Bomb Squad, and recording with the innovative drum’n’bass legend, Deantoni Parks, from making Hip Hop tracks with Che Pope at Warner Bros., to performing classical and jazz music at the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall with his father, and recording original songs with winner of The Voice, Javier Colon.
Troy Robey is a double bassist with a foundational, open, and warm musical approach. He spent his formative musical years in the cities of Rockford and Chicago, Illinois performing jazz, rock, and theater music. He studied with Chicago bassist Larry Gray at DePaul University before moving to the Pacific Northwest and ultimately Denver, CO. Robey tours internationally with the folk string band Taarka as well as performs as a jazz and folk sideman in the Denver area.
Tom Tilton, a long-time Denver pillar in the jazz world, has been an influential and masterful drummer in the local community for decades. Performing with the legends in Denver, including Joe Bonner, Paul Warburton, Mitch Chmara, Hugh Regan, Kenny Walker, Jimmy Hopps (aka: Jimmi EsSpirit) and the gamut of other top artists, Tom has also brought numerous long-standing performance series to the Denver area, such as Steinway and Stained Glass. His groups have worked extensively with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater organization as well. Additionally, Tom's organization, Jae Ram Arts, was the home for one of the richest underground jazz loft scenes in Denver's history.
Daniel Moreno, multi-percussionist has participated in many Grammy nominated recordings, from Les Paul, Herbie Hancock, Pharoah Sanders, Bheki Mseleku, Roy Haynes and Dr. Lonnie Smith, to Graham Haynes, Marc Cary, Abby Lincoln, Rene McClean, Nicky Marrero and Benny Baily. Daniel has worked with a wide array of artists for over 35 years on touring, studio, dance and theater projects. Moreno is based in NYC, prior to which he lived around the world in Europe, West Africa, Brazil, Latin America and Hawaii.
